The Marker Alpinist Free 13 is a full tech pin binding that is rated to a DIN value of 13 for aggressive backcountry skiers and ski-mountaineers. The value behind having a DIN rating, especially one that is up to 13, is that you can have more confidence in your bindings to not false-release in technical terrain. Coming in at a light weight, the Alpinist Free 13 is the perfect choice for skiers who are all about saving weight and traveling long distances to ski the steepest and most technical lines.

Why we like it:

By having a pin binding that is DIN rated to a 13, there is a lot adjustability in terms of the DIN range so that you can have more confidence in your gear and have safer descents in steep technical terrain.

Who it's for:

The Alpinist Free 13 is for aggressive backcountry skiers who are looking to save weight along with ski mountaineers who have concerns over false-releasing in technical terrain.

Highlights:

The Alpinist Free 13 has a wider platform than most other pin bindings which assist with power transfer and more precise handling. Performance Booster plates are mounted on the heel to close the gap between the sole of the boot and the heel part of the binding. Featuring a lightweight construction with brakes, the Free 13 is perfectly suited for backcountry freeride skiers who have a need for downhill performance at the lowest weight possible. Climbing aids at 0, 5, and 9 degrees assist with various ascent inclines with ski crampon mounts to assist with glacial and hard pack touring.

Things to consider:

The Alpinist Free 13 is one of the higher performing tech bindings geared toward backcountry freeride skiing, however it does not have the same level of power transfer and binding release performance as a hybrid binding like the Duke Pt or Shift. However, you gain enormous uphill efficiency!

Boot Compatibility:

Compatible with Touring Adult Soles (ISO 9523).
